Behavioral Online therapy for eating disorders in Florida
Cognitive behavioral therapy for bulimia, binge eating disorders, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder. The goal is to decrease the client’s belief and anxiety around food by exposing their beliefs and challenging and reframing those beliefs and behaviors that support or maintain these emotions.
There are two major parts to this therapy: the cognitive aspect which helps people reflect on how they think about the problem, and the behavioral component, which allows clients to reflect on the consequences of their behaviors.
In a session, this looks like laying out the patterns of a train of thoughts and behaviors, situations that may have called on a particular belief. Putting forth the narrative and beliefs you have about these behaviors.
Cognitive behavioral therapy can help clients to identify triggers and negative or distorted beliefs, and once identified, our trained therapists will help challenge you with specific strategies to encourage reframing irrational thoughts and building behaviors aligned with your goals and valued.
Indicators of progress will be present as you display an ability to be flexible in your thinking patterns, for instance, you will not go into automatic negative thoughts such as black and white or mind reading.
Emotion acceptance behavior therapy
While eating disorders present with symptoms involving food, emotions play a major part in understanding and managing symptoms.
Research has shown the impact of avoiding emotions on clients presenting with eating disorder symptoms. The more participants avoided their emotions, the more they engaged in unwanted experiences.
There are three phases to EABT phase I, which consists of orienting the client to treatment and building a therapeutic rapport. Phase II consists of helping the client to meet their treatment goals. By using mindfulness, EABT encourages clients to describe, observe and tolerate the feelings, thoughts, and physical sensations related to the experience they are having. Sitting with the discomfort rather than experimenting with different behaviors or cognitive reframing.
PhaseIII is also the final phase of EABT and the start of planning for the end of treatment. The client is encouraged to identify what parts of their lives their eating disorder has interfered with, think about a goal for the next three months, and commit to decreasing or eliminating behaviors that interfere with that goal.
