A little bit about me.
I understand that when looking for a therapist one has 2 main questions: what are their credentials, and why do they work with this population?
I hope that the information below will give you a good idea of who I am as a professional and how I present in the therapeutic setting.
I am the owner and founder of The Balanced Mind Counseling. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist which does not mean that you need to be in a relationship to benefit from therapy with me. Marriage and Family Therapists function from a relational base, understanding that life is relational and that systems are interconnected. Marriage and Family Therapists treat mental illness and psychological distress within the context of the marriage and family systems.
I earned a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Palm Beach Atlantic University. I have been working in the field of Mental Health since 2014. While enrolled in school, I interned at Family promise where I facilitated individual and group counseling for underprivileged families. Prior to starting in Private Practice, I worked at a center for substance abuse where I provided therapeutic services. In addition, during those 4 years of training, I worked with the Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders in multiple capacities including conducting weekly Body image, self-efficacy, resilience, mindfulness, DBT, exposure therapy and Family support groups. I developed a passion for working with those suffering from Eating disorders.
I have completed trainings in Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Solution Focused and Intuitive Eating.
I have a passion for working with individuals who present with eating disorders, anxiety and depression, because I have personally experienced some of them. I know on a personal level that there is hope.
I will provide you with evidence based tools you need and will point out to the research specific to your presenting problem.
I am originally from Haiti, lived in Canada and speak French, English and Creole and professional Spanish. Having lived in different cultures, I am sensitive to each individual’s context and experiences. I understand that every individual is unique.
we recognize the importance of honoring and respecting the diverse belief systems of all our clients. While I am personally committed to my faith in Christ, my foremost commitment is to support your healing journey in a way that aligns with your own values and beliefs.
Respecting Your Beliefs
Client-Centered Approach: Your therapy experience will be tailored to your individual needs and belief system. I will respect and honor your personal faith, values, and worldview.
Collaborative Process: You are in control of how and if faith is integrated into your therapy. I will never introduce overt references to our Christian faith without your explicit consent.
Holistic Support: my goal is to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable and understood. I draw upon a variety of therapeutic techniques and respect all spiritual and religious backgrounds.
Our Approach to Faith in Therapy
Personal Faith Commitment: As a therapist committed to my Christian faith, I bring compassion, empathy, and ethical integrity to our sessions. My faith informs my dedication to providing high-quality care, but it will not dominate our sessions unless you choose to explore it.
Optional Faith Integration: If you wish to incorporate your faith into your therapy, I am more than willing to do so. This can include prayer, spiritual discussions, and drawing upon religious texts or practices that resonate with you.
Ensuring a Respectful Therapeutic Environment
Confidentiality and Respect: Your beliefs, whether religious or secular, are respected and kept confidential. My primary goal is to create a safe and supportive environment for your personal growth.
Empowerment and Consent: You have the autonomy to decide how faith and spirituality are addressed in your therapy. I will always seek your consent before incorporating any religious elements into our sessions.
